Three years prior to the events of Langrisser IV, McClaine and his sister Mary were running an errand in a village near Pelia when on their way back they entered a forest and suddenly McClaine passed out. When he came to, he was alone and a year had passed and he was in a strange village. McClaine quickly discover that he had been experimented upon and was no longer simply human and that Gizarof was to blame for this.
McClaine is first encountered during the events of Langrisser IV as Landius and Ricky begin to make their way to Gizarof's manor. About when Commander Bula intercepted Landius and Ricky, he happened upon them and upon hearing their story decide to join in their crazy adventure.
After rescuing the Twin Princesses, the group stumble upon one of Gizarof's laboratory and are able to save Landius's sister. While exploring this building, McClaine discovers his sister's ring in the basement and vows to kill Gizarof for his treachery.

After the war, his power was greatly sought after, by both Caconsis and Regenburg. However, he refused all of these offers. His heart didn't yearn for the glory of military rank, but for a certain woman. "I guess life as a wanderer has seeped into my very bones…" he said as he picked up his luggage. He stepped aboard a boat to the last known location of his beloved, the continent of El Sallia...[5]

Once a citizen of Regenburg himself, he was offered a position as General under the command of the newly appointed Admiral Ranford. He spent much of his time working with Ranford to rebuild their country. Most importantly, the monsters formerly commanded by Gizarof still caused disturbances throughout the country. McClaine's efforts battling against the attacks gradually had an effect, and casualties decreased. However, one day he found himself surrounded by monsters as he attempted to save a lost child. He saved the child, but at the cost of his own life.

He traveled to every province, and wrote a 20 volume text before the body Gizarof had built him broke down. The text was a veritable bible for adventurers, and is read even to this day.

Before he could find a way to regain his humanity, his mind was transformed and he eventually lost his own identity. Some say he still wanders the world somewhere even today.
